B.C. Blueberries – Duke Crop Update

Category: Berries

With bloom coming to a rapid end, we are getting a good look at how crops will turn out this season, particularly Duke variety. We are starting to see colour on some bunches which keeps us on track for harvest this year.

As shown in this week’s field look, fruit is sizing very well. The success of the pollination period is clear to see now as branches are looking full, with steady growth and sizing throughout.

Pairing this week’s rain with moderately warm temperatures should contribute to good development and sizing moving forward.

Both sizing and volume on the plants is looking to be the strongest seen since the 2016 season. With first picks predicted for the last week of June, we are quickly closing in on the season.

Take a look at this week’s update video from one of our fields in Abbotsford!
